Impact

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD IS ABOUT TO SHINE.

Following the reopening of BC Place in 2011, we're looking to take our revitalization project out to the surrounding lands owned by the BC Pavilion Corporation (PavCo).

Our vision is to transform the area into a vibrant sports, arts and entertainment district. That will include an integrated hotel-entertainment complex to the West of BC Place, as well as other commercial and residential developments.

The sale of development rights will significantly contribute to the cost of the entire revitalization project. PavCo will lease the land; it will not be sold.

THE FUTURE IS ALSO GREENER.

Compared to building a whole new facility, the revitalization of BC Place is already a major environmental win.

Less resources, less waste

Upgrading saves a massive amount of construction resources and prevents a massive amount of non-recyclable demolition waste from being made.

Energy efficiency

All upgrades have been planned with energy and emissions in mind, from the new high-efficiency lighting and to the retractable roof itself, which alone will save 25 percent on energy costs.

Transit and infrastructure

In its current location, the stadium is very well served by public transit and is able to share existing city infrastructure with surrounding developments, leading to reduced costs and improved efficiency for everyone.

But the revitalization project itself isn't the end of our plans to reduce our footprint.

Carbon neutral

Our operations will be going carbon neutral starting in 2011, thanks to offsets purchased through the Pacific Carbon Trust. We'll also be improving our carbon management so that we can continue to shrink our actual emissions year after year.

Greener day-to-day operations

We're developing an integrated waste management program to reduce waste and expand recycling, and a new green cleaning policy to lighten the impact of our daily maintenance.
