Global superstars One Direction have added Canadian dates to the North American leg of the highly anticipated ON THE ROAD AGAIN 2015 stadium tour, which will see the band perform in Australia, Japan and South East Asia in support their new album FOUR (to be released Nov. 17). The North American tour, promoted by Live Nation, kicks off on July 9, 2015 at the Qualcomm stadium in San Diego, Cali. The full 22-city North American tour includes stops in East Rutherford, Vancouver, Toronto, Chicago, Boston, Detroit and Seattle, amongst others. Additional dates for the European and North American leg go on sale on November 1 at www.livenation.com.

The music video for the band’s lead single ‘Steal My Girl’ premieres globally on Friday, Oct. 24. The outlandish video, filmed in Palmdale, CA, is directed by Benjamin and Gabe Turner and features a cameo from Hollywood legend Danny Devito. The video will premiere on VEVO at 8:00 a.m. PDT/11:00 a.m. EDT/4:00 p.m. BST.

FIFA Women's World Cup tickets go on sale


Tickets for the FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015™ are on sale, with fans able to get their hands on a place at every match at the tournament, which will be showcasing the finest talent in the women's game.

Supporters can now book their seats in any of the stadiums across the six host cities, with the action set to kick off on 6 June. Fans can also purchase Stadium Passports or Stadium Half Passes – earning them access to all or half of the games at a particular venue – while granting them first-come, first-serve access to tickets to the final in Vancouver at the time of purchase. Tickets for the climax will start from $50 for Category 4, with the tournament committed to encourage access for all.

As well as putting them at the front of the queue for the showpiece match on 5 July, supporters will also be getting up to 25 per cent discount on standard ticket prices, the ability to share their stadium ticket amongst family or friends and securing themselves the same seat for each game. Stadium Passports will be available for each venue, while the Stadium Half Pass can be purchased for BC Place Stadium (Vancouver); Commonwealth Stadium (Edmonton); and Olympic Stadium (Montreal).

"The FIFA Women's World Cup is the pinnacle of international football, featuring the best of the best in a 24-nation, 52-match final competition," said Victor Montagliani, Chair of the National Organising Committee for the FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015. expected to exceed $337 million


Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance study projects tremendous economic impact
across seven host cities from coast to coast

September 8, 2014, Winnipeg MB – The Canadian Soccer Association today released the preliminary economic impact projections for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Canada 2014 and FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™.  The initial projections indicate the two competitions will produce industry output of over $337 million nationally.  

The 2015 competition is expected to support $267 million in economic activity with the 2014 competition expected to support an additional $70 million. The net economic activity (GDP) of the  competitions is expected to reach a total of $169 million with $37 million in 2014 and $132 million in 2015.

The projections, compiled by the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance, look at several factors including the projected expenditures of out of town visitors attending the competition, capital construction costs and the operational expenditures associated with hosting the competitions.  Through the use of the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance’s STEAM model, the economic impact of the competitions are detailed across several factors such as employment, taxes, gross domestic product (GDP) and industry output.  The combined economic output of both events across the four host provinces ranged from $256 million to $80 million with a municipal output across seven host cities of between $11 million and $59 million.   

“The FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ marks the first major sporting event hosted in Canada from coast to coast, from Vancouver, British Columbia on the west coast to Moncton, New Brunswick in Atlantic Canada,” said Victor Montagliani, President of the Canadian Soccer Association and Chair of the National Organizing Committee for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™. “As part of the Canadian Soccer Association's 2014-2018 Strategic Plan - Leading a Soccer Nation - the successful hosting of these competitions will fulfil our strategic priority to encourage and oversee the growth of the game in our country and leave a legacy for sport, for women, and for Canada that reaches far beyond the competition."

The final report on the economic impact of the competitions will be compiled after 24 teams compete from June 6 to July 5, 2015 for the FIFA Women’s World Cup™.  Matches will be held in Moncton, New Brunswick; Montreal, Quebec; Ottawa, Ontario; Winnipeg, Manitoba; Edmonton, Alberta and Vancouver, British Columbia.  In 2014, 16 teams will compete from August 5 to 24 in Moncton, New Brunswick; Montreal, Quebec; Toronto, Ontario and Edmonton, Alberta.  The report will look at the combined total of visitor expenditures, operational expenditures, capital construction costs, wages and salaries and tax revenue to produce a report into the local and regional economic impact in the Official Host Cities and provinces and key sectors in the Canadian economy.

Hosting the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Canada 2014 and FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ provide a tremendous opportunity for the Official Host Cities to invest in and upgrade sport and community facilities.  This investment in soccer will create opportunities for lifelong sport while engaging Canadian youth and families. While the economic impact will undoubtedly be impressive, the positive social impact will have an effect on all levels of soccer across the country and establish a new era in the women's game.

Your first chance to buy tickets to the Final Match of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ will be next month with the launch of tickets sales on 10 September. Tickets to the championship match – to be played 5 July at BC Place in Vancouver – will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

To be eligible to buy tickets to the Final Match in the first phase of ticket sales, fans must purchase either a Stadium Passport or Stadium Half Pass.

The Final Match will be available as a purchasable add-on for any of the official host cities, when an individual is completing their Stadium Passport or Stadium Half Passes. The Final Match must be added at the time of a Stadium Passport or Stadium Half Pass purchase. Fans can order a maximum of six tickets to the Final Match.

With a commitment to ensure the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ is accessible and affordable, prices to the Final Match start at just $50 for Category 4. Prices for other categories are $85 for Category 3, $125 for Category 2, and $165 for Category 1.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ runs 6 June to 5 July in six Canadian host cities: Vancouver, British Columbia; Edmonton, Alberta; Winnipeg, Manitoba; Ottawa, Ontario; Montréal, Québec; and Moncton, New Brunswick.
The first phase of ticket sales runs through 6 December 2014, the day of the Official Draw in Canada’s capital region. From more than 125 competing nations, there will be 24 finalists in Canada next year.

Ticket prices for the Final Match were announced on 23 August in Montréal, the eve of the championship match for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Canada 2014.

‘Lights of Hope’ glow bright at BC Place

 
Vancouver, BC:  It may only be August, but BC Place will be glowing with hundreds of thousands of Christmas lights as the testing site for the annual St. Paul’s Hospital ‘Lights of Hope’.

The Lights of Hope - a spectacular display of holiday lights that illuminate the exterior of St. Paul’s Hospital - is part of a campaign inviting the community to give generously to the hospital’s greatest needs.

From August 18 to 22, volunteers from Stantec and BCIT will be setting up on the stadium’s level 2 concourse, working nine hours a day untangling, sorting, and testing the lights which measure about 10 kilometers in length.

With its colourful illuminations highlighting the downtown skyline nightly, BC Place is the perfect place for this lighting-based community project. “We are pleased to be able to support this important community initiative once again,” said Graham Ramsay, Director of Sales and Marketing, BC Place. “The St Paul’s Lights of Hope are a holiday season institution in Vancouver, and BC Place is excited to help activate this very worthwhile cause.”

The Lights of Hope campaign raises funds to support world-leading care, research, and teaching at St. Paul’s Hospital and the campaign hopes to exceed last year’s fundraising total of $2.4 million.
“We are excited that people look forward to the annual Lights of Hope as part of their holiday tradition, and we are grateful that it inspires people to participate in the fundraising campaign,”’ said Dick Vollet, President and CEO of St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation. “St. Paul’s Hospital is grateful to BC Place for offering their venue again this year and to Stantec for leading volunteer efforts.”
