Blueprint Events and Live Nation Announce Western Canada's Largest Electronic Indoor Music Festival As A Two-Night Stadium Event at BC Place December 26th & 27th

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA—(Friday, October 4, 2013): Blueprint, in partnership with Live Nation Canada, is thrilled to announce the second annual CONTACT Winter music festival at BC Place Stadium, expanding this year to a two-day event, to be held over Boxing Day on December 26th and December 27th, 2013. CONTACT 2013 will be the first ever two-day festival to occur at BC Place, and is poised to trump all previous large-scale events as the most elaborate to-date, attracting music lovers from all over the Pacific Northwest.

CONTACT 2013 follows on the heels of the success of CONTACT 2012, which featured a headlining performance by world-renowned electronic DJ Deadmau5, to the tune of 12,000 celebrators. Conceptualized and produced by Blueprint and Live Nation, this year’s festival is expected to secure an even greater turn out over the course of the two days, and will be the largest ever, indoor festival to occur in Western Canada. The ambition to bring an event of this unprecedented magnitude to Vancouver fulfills the desires of Blueprint and Live Nation to grow and push the boundaries of the electronic music scene.

CONTACT 2013 will host ten of the most celebrated and illustrious artists in the current electronic music industry to perform over the two-day event, including Skrillex, Kaskade, Dada Life, Diplo, Bingo Players, Baauer, Flosstradamus, Dirty South, Cashmere Cat and MakJ, who will come to Vancouver from across North America, Europe and Australia.

As the largest exhibition and entertainment venue of its kind in BC, and one of the most technologically advanced stadiums in the world, BC Place will set the stage for an unforgettable CONTACT Winter Music Festival experience. Festival-goers will be tantalized by the stadium’s exciting, “Northern Lights” LED roof display and light fixtures – animating and bringing each performance to life. A new state-of-the-art sound system featuring loudspeaker arrays mounted from above the stands, on the video board display and under the balconies, will pump out an amazingly clear sound, to create a memorable two days of musical acts.

The December 26th and 27th event will be open to all ages, and feature VIP areas for attendees who are 19 and older carrying ID, Doors open at 5pm each day, with acts running until midnight. Tickets will go on sale Thursday, October 10th at 10am. Early bird festival passes go on presale starting Monday, October 7th at 10am, ranging from $99.00 - $139.00 for the two days, in addition to VIP festival passes beginning at $225.00. The Ride is a 2-day, 200+ km cycling event between Vancouver and Seattle to raise vital funds for personalized cancer medicine research at the BC Cancer Foundation.

Canada WNT returns to Vancouver to host Mexico

September 5, 2013

Vancouver, BC: Canada Women’s National Team, and Olympic bronze medalist, will host Mexico in a Women’s International Friendly match at BC Place in Vancouver on 24 November 2013 (kickoff 13.00 local time). The match, presented by Bell, will mark Canada’s Women’s National Team’s return to Vancouver and the first time the two nations face off since Canada booked its ticket to the 2012 London Olympic Games with a 3:1 win over Mexico at the CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying tournament held in Vancouver in January 2012. 

“The Canadian Soccer Association is thrilled to have the Women’s National Team host an International Friendly at BC Place in Vancouver this November,” said Peter Montopoli, Canadian Soccer Association General Secretary. “This match gives the fans the opportunity to see their Canadian Olympic heroes in person and highlight the incredible support the team has received since its inspiring Olympic journey.” 

Tickets for the Canada-Mexico match on 24 November will go on sale via Ticketmaster on Friday 13 September. Tickets will be available starting at $15 (plus applicable fees) and special group rates (10 or more) will be offered. All ticket and event details will be posted to canadasoccer.com as they are confirmed. 

The 24 November match will also be broadcast live nationally on Sportsnet One (10.00 ET / 13.00 PT). 

“We look forward to building on the momentum of hosting matches at home and are confident Vancouver will once again show its passion for the beautiful game just as it did in January 2012 when record crowds attended the CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying tournament,” added Montopoli. “This match will not only serve as great preparation for the Women’s National Team, but also for the city of Vancouver as both prepare for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015.” 

Vancouver is one of the six Official Host Cities for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015TM and will have the privilege of hosting the world’s largest women’s football tournament championship match.

• Canada WNT has an all-time record of 17W-1D-1L in 19 international ‘A’ matches against Mexico dating back to 1994. 

• Before the 2012 CONCACAF Women’s Olympic Qualifying clash, the last time Canada and Mexico came together was in 2010 in the dramatic final of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifiers™ tournament in Mexico where Canada defeated Mexico one-nil on the day courtesy of a goal by Christine Sinclair to be crowned CONCACAF Champions on Mexican soil.

BC PLACE PITCHES IN TO SUPPORT BENEFIT CONCERT FOR ALBERTA FLOOD RELIEF

Vancouver, BC:  BC Place Stadium is getting behind Alberta’s efforts to raise funds for flood-affected communities by providing 100,000sq.ft. of concert flooring to the Alberta Flood Aid benefit concert.

BC Place’s Terracover flooring system will be loaned to Alberta Flood Aid for their concert at McMahon Stadium in Calgary on Thursday, August 15. The star-studded event will raise much-needed funds for flood recovery efforts in Calgary, High River, Canmore and nearby First Nation reserves.

“The goal of the concert is to raise funds and raise spirits,” said Ken Cretney, Chief Operating Officer, BC Pavilion Corporation, “and we are pleased to be able to assist our entertainment industry colleagues, and support this very worthwhile cause by loaning our stadium flooring system.”

Peter Jurisic, Chair, Alberta Flood Aid, added: “The support we have received from BC Place to assist in staging this fundraising concert has been fantastic. The loan of this specialized flooring will ensure more of the funds raised will reach the communities most impacted by the flooding.”

More than 100,000 people were displaced as a result of the flooding in June 2013, and although many evacuees have returned home following the initial clean-up, the long-term rebuilding continues for those hardest hit.

The list of performers for the benefit concert continues to grow, but already the following artists have confirmed their participation: Nickelback, Jann Arden, Randy Bachman, Tom Cochrane, Matthew Good, Colin James, Loverboy, Corb Lund, Johnny Reid, The Sadies, The Sheepdogs, and Ian Tyson. Terracover is an interlocking system of plastic flooring panels, specially designed to protect artificial or natural turf surfaces from equipment and foot traffic in multipurpose event venues.

FATHER-AND-SON MOMENT KICKS OFF A LIFETIME OF MEMORIES AT BC PLACE

Vancouver, BC: The 30th Anniversary of BC Place brought back a lifetime of memories for many of the 30 million people who have visited the iconic stadium, including BC Place’s grand prize winner, Derek Williams of Surrey.

Derek was just five-years-old when his father brought him to see the BC Lions at BC Place Stadium. That father-son experience kicked off a lifetime of memories.

“That is where my love of football and love for the Lions started”, recalls Derek. “I was only five but my Dad taught me all about the game and the players. Since then I have played for my high school football team and my dad took days off work just to see the team play.”

Sadly, Derek’s father passed away in October. But for Derek, the memory of his father is strong every time he attends a game at BC Place. “Even ‘till this day when I’m sitting at a game, I think of the first time that my dad brought me to BC Place - and this season it will be no different.”

BC Place recently invited British Columbians to share their memories from the last 30 years for a chance to win a grand prize including the winner’s choice of BC Lions or Whitecaps FC event tickets, plus a 12-month family membership to the BC Sports Hall of Fame.

British Columbians submitted hundreds of stories about their favourite memories. Those experiences included once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to visit the original construction site in 1982, welcoming the world for the ceremonies of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, and priceless memories of seeing Michael Jackson live in concert.

“The response to the BC Place 30th Anniversary contest has been heartwarming, and a wonderful example of the memories created over the last 30 years,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Hon. Todd Stone. “The response has highlighted the connection that British Columbians have with our world-class stadium.”

“On behalf of the BC Sports Hall of Fame, I would like to say congratulations to Derek Williams on winning BC Place’s 30th Anniversary contest,” said Allison Mailer, Executive Director of the BC Sports Hall of Fame. “Derek’s memorable moment reminds us of the important role sport plays in bringing families and the community together.”

Since the official opening ceremony on June 19, 1983, BC Place has hosted thousands of events, large and small, from world-class concerts with 62,000 fans cheering, to community days where British Columbians have met their heroes.

Vancouver’s skyline also featured 30 candles for the 30 days of celebration, as BC Place’s Northern Lights marked the 30th Anniversary of the stadium with a unique lighting display.

2014 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic™ Broadcast Live on CBC & RDS in Canada, NBC Sports Network in the U.S. and on radio on SiriusXM

NEW YORK – The Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic™ will return to the regular-season schedule next season when the Vancouver Canucks face off against the Ottawa Senators at BC Place in Vancouver on Sunday, March 2, the National Hockey League announced today. The Canucks become the first NHL® team to host a game in a retractable-roof facility and just the third Canadian NHL team to host a regular-season game outdoors, following the Edmonton Oilers in 2003 and Calgary Flames in 2011.

The game will be broadcast live on CBC and RDS in Canada and on NBC Sports Network in the U.S. SiriusXM Radio will provide live radio coverage.

“With one of the world’s great facilities as the setting, and one of the world’s most scenic cities as the backdrop, the 2014 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic™ at BC Place in Vancouver will honor hockey's Canadian heritage,” Commissioner Gary Bettman said. “With the excitement, the entertainment, the competitiveness and the fun of this game, the Canucks and Senators will create special memories for hockey fans everywhere.”

The 2014 matchup between Vancouver and Ottawa recalls and celebrates some of the earliest history of the Stanley Cup® Championship. In 1915, the Vancouver Millionaires™, the first professional hockey team on the West Coast, were crowned champions of the Pacific Coast Hockey Association. Meanwhile, in the rival league from the East, the National Hockey Association, which two years later became the National Hockey League, the Ottawa Senators were skating to a league title. Earlier, the two leagues agreed to play a series between the champions of each league with the Stanley Cup® awarded to the victor. The Millionaires swept a best-of-five series to claim the Stanley Cup® Championship.

BC PLACE GLOWS WITH 30 CANDLES TO CELEBRATE 30 YEARS OF AMAZING EVENTS

Vancouver, BC: Vancouver’s skyline will feature 30 candles on select evenings this June and July, marking the 30th Anniversary of BC Place.

BC Place has been the home of countless moments in BC’s rich history, hosting more than 30 million guests at events as diverse as the province itself. Since its official opening on June 19, 1983, BC Place has hosted thousands of events, large and small, from world-class concerts with 62,000 in attendance, to community days where fans have met their heroes.

To further celebrate the occasion, BC Place invites all British Columbians to share their favourite memories of BC Place for a chance to win prizes during the 30 days of celebrations. Full contest details are at www.bcplace.com

*Note: evenings that do not feature 30 candles will continue to be lit various colours in support of Vancouver Whitecaps FC, BC Lions Football Club, and other community initiatives.

About the “Northern Lights” at BC Place
The stadium roof façade – known as the Northern Lights Display - uses 1700 ‘ETFE’ panels, stacked four rows high, and 6,800 linear feet of energy-efficient LED lights to create customizable lighting displays. BC Place has used the entire roof to promote specific events, create seasonal displays and raise awareness for community and charitable organizations.
