BC Place Glows Pink for 'Run for the Cure'

BC PLACE GLOWS “PINK” TODAY
FOR “RUN FOR THE CURE”

With the support of the BC Lions, BC Place will light up pink tonight instead of the normal game-day orange, to spread awareness for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation ‘CIBC Run for the Cure’. The lighting initiative is part of “Paint Canada Pink Week” which celebrates 50 days to Run Day.
Vancouver joins over 60 communities across the country in the largest, single day, volunteer-led national event in Canada in support of breast cancer research. This year the CIBC Run for the Cure in Vancouver begins at 9:00am on October 4th at Concord Pacific Place.

Last year in Vancouver, 7,000 participants joined for the walk/run and raised $1,568 million (as of Run Day). All proceeds raised at runs in BC will remain in the BC/Yukon Region. Across Canada, participants raised a total of $25 million. Register online at www.cibcrunforthecure.com

Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosis in Canadian women – with 1 in 4 cancer diagnoses being breast cancer. One in 9 Canadian women will develop breast cancer during their lifetime.

The organization provides support to patients and families around the world who have been affected by Periventricular Nodular Heterotopia (PVNH) - a rare neuronal migration disorder - and other heterotopia disorders.

Vancouver, BC- The FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015™ has resulted in record breaking attendance – and a full house is expected once again at BC Place on Sunday, July 5th as USA and Japan go head-to-head for the championship title.

With more than 53,000 arriving at BC Place for the Final match, fans are encouraged to arrive early at the stadium to avoid long line-ups at the gates. Doors to the stadium open at 1.00pm - three hours prior to kickoff which takes place at 4.00pm PST.

MATCHDAY TIPS FOR FANS:

•    ARRIVE EARLY as traffic, transit and the area around BC Place will be busier than usual. Expect enhanced security at the gates, including bag checks.

Vancouver, BC- Following the record-breaking attendance for Canada’s win against Switzerland on June 21st, BC Place is expects another full house for the upcoming Quarter Final match between Canada and England on Saturday, June 27th.

With a crowd of more than 53,000 expected to arrive at BC Place, fans are encouraged to arrive at the stadium early to avoid long line-ups. Doors to the stadium open at 2:30pm and the match kicks off at 4.30pm PST.

TICKET SALE DATES ANNOUNCED FOR CANADA SEVENS VANCOUVER 2016

VANCOUVER (June 10, 2015) – Rugby sevens, the fastest growing spectator sport in North America, is set to descend upon Vancouver, Canada March 2016, where the world’s best will compete for points in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series. Canada Sevens organizers announced today tournament passes will go on sale Tuesday, September 8, and single-day tickets will be available November 17. With BC Place suites being snapped up in less than 24 hours last week, the organizing committee anticipates a strong turnout when Ticketmaster goes live with sales in September.

“The Vancouver market is ripe for this type of entertainment,” said Canada Sevens CEO, Bill Cooper. “Sevens rugby is exciting, dynamic and wildly entertaining and the tournament brings with it a festival atmosphere enriched by exceptional athletes, passionate fans and the energy of 16 nations. It is a complete live sport experience. Expect 45 high-scoring games, surprising upsets, fans in crazy costumes, an incredible sound track, a world-class venue at BC Place Stadium and a warm host city embrace. We are confident that once they absorb it, Vancouverites, British Columbians and Canadians alike will fall in love with this spectacle and be proud to have it marked down as a must-attend highlight on their calendar each year.”
“We received incredible early interest in tickets and suites, so we know there is a lot of demand,” added Cooper. “While traditional suites are already spoken for, we look forward to introducing many other premium options and are confident there is something for everyone, from high-end club seats, to field-side loge seats, to general admission.”

Sevens rugby is distinctly different from traditional fifteen-a-side rugby – with games lasting only fourteen minutes and the field covered by less than half as many athletes, anything can happen in each lightening quick bout. Touted as one of the most exciting new sports on the market, rugby sevens is set to debut on the Olympic schedule in Rio 2016. As the format is spectator friendly, easy to understand and an attractive broadcast product, World Rugby and international sponsors are investing heavily in the sport.

World Rugby is expected to announce the full ten-stop tour schedule for the 2015-16 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series soon, in anticipation of the season kick off in October 2015.
Six nations have qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games to-date, including top four finishers from the 2014-15 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series Fiji, South Africa, New Zealand and Great Britain. Team Canada is set to compete this weekend at the North America Caribbean Rugby Association (NACRA) Regional Olympic Qualification tournament held in Cary, North Carolina June 13-14. While the winner of the tournament earns a ticket to Rio 2016, the Olympic journey doesn’t stop there, as teams will have a third and final opportunity to qualify in a repechage next summer.

Vancouver, BC:The Northern Lights roof lighting display at BC Place will be illuminated “blue” on May 17 in honour of the provincial Bereavement Day.

The special lighting of BC Place will support the efforts of the BC Bereavement Helpline (BCBH) in recognizing that every person experiences loss and needs support. BCBH is a non-profit, free, and confidential service that connects the public to grief support services within the province of BC. In 1998, BC agreed in principle to recognize a day dedicated to grief and loss awareness and in 2002 it was declared that the third Sunday of May every year be set aside as Bereavement Day.

Vancouver, BC: BC Place will glow blue and purple on Monday in support of International ME/CFS & FM Awareness Day, and as part of the “May 12th Light Up the Night Challenge”. The event is supported by both the National ME/FM Action Network and the MEFM Society of BC to bring awareness to the experience and needs of people living with ME/CFS (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) and FM (Fibromyalgia). Close to 100,000 British Columbians are living with these disabling and often misunderstood diseases.
